Our Story
Our names are Marilena Korahais and Eric Chen, and we founded Try Teen Tutors as two high school students trying to make a difference in our community. Having tutored on our own in the past, we brainstormed ways to broaden our impact, hoping to develop a team of skilled tutors as well as reach students seeking help. We have seen students struggle to learn in the group setting offered in schools, which can often feel overwhelming and fast-paced. Yet, when we offered assistance to our peers, they learned more quickly and felt considerably more comfortable learning from a fellow student in a private setting. This gave us the idea for Try Teen Tutors — a simple, effective way to not only help students by connecting them with peer tutors, but also offer experience tutoring to high schoolers who want to share their knowledge and skills. We invested our time into website design, lesson plans, and advertising, and if you’re reading this, hopefully our efforts have come to fruition!
